Our Story

Where dedication meets transformation

Founder of Tyrvalenverse Fitness

The Beginning

Look, I'll be straight with you - Tyrvalenverse didn't start in some fancy boardroom or with a massive investment. It started in a garage back in 2018, with beat-up barbells and a dream that probably seemed crazy to most folks.

I spent 12 years competing in CrossFit and Olympic lifting, traveled across North America for competitions, got my share of wins and losses. But what really got me fired up wasn't the podium finishes - it was watching everyday people discover what they're actually capable of when they stop putting limits on themselves.

After coaching at a few big-box gyms in Vancouver, I realized something was missing. People were just going through the motions, you know? Nobody was really pushing boundaries or building that tight-knit community where everyone's genuinely rooting for each other.

So I took the leap. Scraped together some savings, found this raw space on Burrard Street, and started building what would become Tyrvalenverse. The name? It's about creating your own universe of strength and possibility. Yeah, it's a bit out there, but that's kind of the point.

Our Mission

Building athletes who are stronger than their excuses

"We're not here to coddle anyone. We're here to help you find out what you're really made of. Every rep, every drop of sweat, every moment you think you can't do one more - that's where the magic happens."

Marcus Tyrvalen, Founder & Head Coach

The Journey

1
September 2018

The Garage Days

Started with 8 members training in a converted garage space. No heating, no AC, just pure grit and barbells that'd seen better days. Those first members? They're still with us today.

2
March 2019

First Real Space

Moved into a 3,000 sq ft warehouse in East Van. Finally got proper equipment, climate control, and enough room to actually run decent-sized classes without people tripping over each other.

3
August 2020

Pandemic Pivot

Yeah, we almost didn't make it through this one. Shifted to outdoor training sessions in parks, virtual coaching, equipment rentals. Our community showed up big time - that's when I knew we'd built something real.

January 2022

Championship Success

Three of our athletes qualified for the CrossFit Games Semifinals. Not bad for a gym that started in a garage, right? This put Tyrvalenverse on the map as a serious athletic training facility.

June 2023

Downtown Expansion

Opened our flagship 8,500 sq ft facility on Burrard Street. State-of-the-art equipment, dedicated Olympic lifting platforms, recovery room, the works. This is the space we'd been dreaming about since day one.

Today & Beyond

We've got 200+ members, a coaching staff of 8, and we're just getting started. The goal hasn't changed - help people discover strength they didn't know they had. That's what gets me out of bed every morning.

What We Stand For

These aren't just words on a wall - they're how we operate every single day

No Excuses

We all got stuff going on. Work stress, family drama, whatever. But when you walk through those doors, you leave the excuses behind. Show up, put in the work, and watch what happens.

Community Over Everything

You can get strong anywhere. But getting strong alongside people who genuinely care about your progress? That's different. We celebrate every PR, support through every plateau, and push each other to be better.

Progress Is Personal

We don't do cookie-cutter programs. Your goals aren't the same as the person next to you, so why would your training be? Whether you're chasing competition or just want to feel better - we'll get you there.

Training at Tyrvalenverse Fitness

Ready to Start?

Here's the deal - you can keep thinking about getting in shape, or you can actually do something about it. We offer a free trial class where you'll meet the coaches, check out the space, and get a taste of what we're all about. No pressure, no hard sell. Just come see if this is your kind of place.

Fair warning though - once you experience what training in a real community feels like, those regular gyms are gonna seem pretty boring.
